The Phoenix Pet Expo:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio's no-kill animal shelter, MASH (Maricopa County Animal Safe Haven), was created in May of 2000 to house and care for animals that have been abused or neglected by their caretakers and have been rescued by the Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit. The purpose of the shelter is to provide a safe, healthy, and healing environment for these animals, who must await the outcome of their owner's cruelty cases in court. Ultimately, the goal is to adopt these animals into loving, permanent homes.
